A young woman who once dreamed of stardom in Kumawood has opened up about how hostility and intimidation in Ghana’s entertainment industry forced her to abandon her career path.
TikTok personality CutieJuliet revealed in a trending video that she gave up her ambition of becoming an actress in the early 2000s after experiencing persistent bullying from senior colleagues.
Introduced into Kumawood by veteran actress Gloria Agyeman, she recalled being warmly received by industry figures such as Nana Ama McBrown and Mr. Afrane. But her joy was short-lived.
“I was the youngest at the time, but instead of support, I faced intimidation. The treatment I received made me feel like I didn’t belong,” she recounted.
According to her, the negative experience repeated itself years later when she secured a job as a newscaster at a radio station, only to cross paths again with one of her alleged intimidators.
“On my first day at work, I realised she was already part of the station. Remembering how I had been treated before, I decided to walk away,” she explained, adding that her youthful lack of experience made it difficult to cope with unhealthy competition.
CutieJuliet’s story has sparked conversations about mentorship, rivalry, and support systems in Ghana’s creative space. Many social media users have since weighed in, with some sympathising with her while others call for a healthier environment for newcomers in the entertainment industry.
