The government’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment has received a boost in Agona West Municipality with the passing out of 92 Community Police Assistants (CPAs) and 12 Fire Service Assistants, bringing the total of new recruits to 104.
Speaking at their inauguration, Member of Parliament for Agona West, Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, said the recruitment drive forms part of President John Mahama’s broader vision to reduce joblessness and promote socio-economic development.
According to the MP, the deployment of the CPAs and Fire Service Assistants is not only aimed at combating crime and improving fire safety but also a practical step toward integrating the youth into Ghana’s developing 24-hour economy.
“This milestone reflects the government’s dedication to creating jobs while enhancing safety and security for citizens. These young men and women now have an opportunity to serve their communities with honesty and humility,” Mrs Ofori Dangbey said.
She assured the trainees that those who demonstrate commitment and discipline stand a chance of being absorbed into the mainstream security services in the future.
The MP also used the platform to address the ongoing water crisis in Agona Swedru, promising interim relief through tanker supplies, while appealing to illegal miners operating along the River Ayensu to halt their activities to safeguard water sources.
Municipal Chief Executive Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom emphasized that the recruitment was carried out on a non-partisan basis, stressing inclusivity and merit. He warned that anyone found engaging in corruption or misconduct would be dismissed.
Both leaders commended the Youth Employment Agency’s Municipal Director, Mr Frank Freebody Mensah, for championing initiatives that continue to create job avenues for the youth in the municipality.
For many residents, the induction of the new CPAs and Fire Service Assistants is not just a matter of improved security, but also a step toward addressing the region’s pressing unemployment challenge.
