The Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) of Aggrey Memorial A.M.E Zion Senior High School in Cape Coast has strongly refuted claims by the Ghana Police Service that six of its students were involved in an assault on an Adisadel College final-year student, demanding an unqualified public apology.
At a press conference on Monday, the PTA asserted that no Aggrey students were arrested or implicated in the incident. “No Aggrey student has been arrested and accused of attacking the Adisadel student. The Police press release is false,” the Association stated.
The controversy stems from a Police statement issued on February 24, which linked the alleged attack to the final day of an inter-colleges sports festival at Cape Coast Stadium. The Police claimed that six students were handed over to Kotokuraba Police Station for allegedly assaulting the victim and stealing an iPhone 17 Pro Max, shoes, and GH¢1,400.
The PTA, however, countered the account, presenting a detailed version of events indicating that Aggrey students were actually victims. According to the Association, a larger group of Adisadel students, reportedly armed, pursued Aggrey students, prompting them to seek refuge at the Regional Police Command at Pedu on advice from Ghana National Fire Service personnel.
The PTA explained that a Senior Housemaster and Assistant subsequently escorted the students to Kotokuraba Police Station to assist with investigations—not because they were offenders. It also highlighted that the alleged victim never filed a complaint against any Aggrey students, and the school itself had lodged no such report.
Condemning the Police for publicly naming the juvenile students, the PTA described the move as “heartbreaking and utterly unfortunate,” emphasizing the damage it caused to the school’s reputation.
The Association reaffirmed Aggrey Memorial’s commitment to discipline, ethical conduct, and full cooperation with authorities to ensure the truth is established. It urged the Police to issue a correction that accurately reflects the events and clears the school of unfounded accusations.
The PTA’s statement underscores the need for careful reporting by authorities, particularly when juveniles are involved, to prevent misrepresentation and protect the welfare of students.
