The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has stepped up efforts to combat drug-related activities within the metropolis following a targeted operation that led to the arrest of four suspects.
The operation, carried out by the Assembly’s internal security task force, forms part of a broader strategy to improve public safety and sanitation in Kumasi. Officials say such exercises will be sustained to deter criminal activities and protect residents.
The suspects were picked up at a sanitation site behind the Ashtown Post Office and have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service, specifically the Kumasi Central Police, for further investigations.
Items seized during the operation included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, hard drugs, a locally manufactured pistol, cigarettes, boxes of “Mashallah” (Ataya), and an undisclosed amount of cash.
In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, the Assembly reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that ongoing enforcement actions are necessary to safeguard public health and security.
The KMA also appealed to residents to play an active role by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with authorities to help create a safer and cleaner city.
