The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has announced plans to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners, over their role in the takeover of the Damang Mine and the use of Mahama’s private jet by President John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing the press on Thursday, March 26, members of the Minority Caucus questioned the transparency and fairness of the investor selection process for the mine, describing it as predetermined rather than competitive.
“The Minority will not accept the government’s claim that this was a competitive process. It appears a winner was arranged, not selected,” they stated.
Citing Article 287(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the group said citizens, civil society organisations, and professional bodies may petition CHRAJ to investigate potential violations, framing both the mine takeover and private jet use as part of the same constitutional concern.
The Minority’s move underscores growing calls for accountability and transparency in public-private deals and the use of state resources by high-profile individuals.
