The Ghana Police Service has stepped up its fight against drug trafficking in the Upper West Region, recording multiple arrests and significant seizures of suspected narcotics in recent weeks.
In one of the latest operations, officers intercepted a taxi carrying 140 slabs of substances believed to be illegal drugs, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame.
Authorities say the arrests form part of a broader intelligence-led campaign targeting drug trafficking routes across key districts, including Lawra, Nadowli-Kaleo, Wa Municipality, and Lambussie.
Earlier operations also uncovered additional consignments, including 51 slabs retrieved from a passenger bus, with three more suspects taken into custody.
Police indicate that many of the seized substances were being transported northwards toward border communities, raising concerns about cross-border drug movement.
All suspects are currently undergoing investigation and prosecution, while vehicles used in the operations have been impounded.
The Command has issued a strong warning to transport operators and unions, cautioning against the use of commercial vehicles for illegal activities, as such assets could be seized by the state.
Officials say the intensified operations underscore their commitment to dismantling drug networks and maintaining security across the region.
