The Central Regional Office of the Information Services Department (ISD) has strengthened its public engagement efforts with the addition of two new Mobile Information Vans designed to bring government communication directly to underserved communities.
The vans, fitted with public address systems, LCD screens, projectors and internet connectivity, are expected to improve how government policies and programmes are explained to citizens, especially in remote areas where access to information is limited.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Central Regional Minister, Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, said the vans would serve as mobile platforms for town hall meetings, public education campaigns and community feedback sessions.
He explained that the initiative formed part of the government’s digital communication strategy and would support the dissemination of information on education, healthcare, infrastructure and district-level development projects.
The Minister also urged the Information Services Department to maintain the vehicles properly and ensure they are used strictly for official duties to maximise their impact and lifespan.
Regional Information Officer Mrs Lily Bempong described the vans as a major step toward bringing governance closer to the people, particularly in rural communities.
She noted that the Central Region received three out of the 40 vans imported nationwide and explained that districts had been grouped into clusters to allow quicker deployment of the vehicles when needed.
According to her, the vans will also be used to promote awareness on security, disaster preparedness, crime prevention and conflict resolution, helping to build more informed and resilient communities.
