President John Dramani Mahama has joined a delegation from the Men’s Ministry of the Ringway Assemblies of God Church for a visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where they held a fellowship programme with inmates and donated food items to support their welfare.
A statement from the Presidency said the outreach formed part of a faith-based engagement aimed at encouraging inmates and supporting prison conditions.
The delegation presented a range of supplies including 250 bags of rice, 50 bags of maize, 50 bags of gari, 50 bags of sugar, cooking oil, tomato paste, spaghetti, and sardines to help supplement prison feeding.
The programme featured praise and worship sessions as well as a sermon delivered by Reverend Benjamin Tettey, Head Pastor of the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God Church. He urged inmates not to lose hope and encouraged them to embrace repentance and personal transformation.
President Mahama, addressing the gathering, emphasised the need for society to show compassion towards persons in correctional facilities. He encouraged inmates to remain hopeful and assured them of continued attention to their welfare.
He also pledged government support to improve sports infrastructure within the prisons and indicated that the Lordina Foundation would contribute to enhancing healthcare support for inmates.
During the visit, the delegation toured ongoing prison projects, including a 5,000-layer poultry farm and an 800-capacity remand facility being developed to help ease congestion at Nsawam.
The initiative was described as part of broader efforts combining spiritual encouragement with practical interventions to improve living conditions within the correctional system.
