Ghanaian rap icon Reggie Rockstone has revealed that he has stopped smoking after being diagnosed with asthma, describing the decision as part of a broader shift toward healthier living.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the 62-year-old hiplife pioneer said age and health concerns have pushed him to make significant lifestyle changes.
He explained that although he experimented with smoking and alcohol in his younger days, he eventually decided to quit several habits for health reasons.
“I have done everything. I never did hard drugs which I thank God because I have a very addictive personality, so I am blessed in that sense,” he said, adding that he had tried marijuana in the past but moved away from it.
According to him, his decision to stop smoking was influenced strongly by his asthma condition and family history.
“At this point, being that I am asthmatic, I got no business smoking again. My father was heavily asthmatic, my son has asthma, so I had no business smoking anyway,” he stated.
Reggie Rockstone also disclosed that his transformation extends beyond smoking, noting that he has adjusted his diet and daily habits over time.
He said he has cut out red meat, alcohol and processed sugar, and now focuses on eating healthier foods.
“Lately, I have specific food I eat. As I grew older I have become wiser. I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes,” he said, adding that he now prefers fruits such as watermelon and pawpaw and prioritises staying hydrated.
The “Makaa Maka” hitmaker noted that while he does not follow a rigid fitness regime, he believes people should be intentional about their health choices, comparing the human body to a machine that requires proper care.
