Work on the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway has gathered momentum, with about 51 kilometres of the corridor already cleared as construction preparations advance on the major national infrastructure project.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that the Ghana Armed Forces, under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, is spearheading the initial phase of the project.
In a Facebook update on May 28, 2026, Dr. Forson commended the military for what he described as remarkable progress and professionalism in executing the early works on the expressway corridor.
He further announced that compensation payments for residents affected by the project would begin in June after ongoing assessments by the relevant state agencies are completed.
According to the Finance Minister, the expressway is expected to become one of Ghana’s most strategic economic corridors, improving connectivity between Accra and Kumasi while boosting trade, transportation, and economic activity.
He described the project as a transformational initiative that would significantly ease movement along one of the country’s busiest road networks and contribute to long-term national development.
