Construction work on a major educational infrastructure project at Birifor Senior High School in the Upper West Region is steadily progressing, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the facility will significantly improve student welfare once completed.
Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede A. Ziedeng, has praised Solodom Construction Limited for what he describes as encouraging progress on a GH₵11 million multipurpose dining hall and headmaster’s bungalow project at the school.
The MP said during a visit to the site that the contractor had demonstrated commitment and capacity to deliver the project within the 12-month timeline, noting that the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure in the constituency.
The project, which includes a 2,500-seater dining hall and a kitchen facility, is expected to improve meal arrangements for students at Birifor SHS and enhance overall learning conditions.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the site showed that excavation works and foundation structures have been completed, with starter columns already erected and concrete works ongoing.
According to the contractor, Solomon Adumbiiri Ameabuno, the project has reached about 20 percent completion within the first month, with further structural works expected to advance rapidly in the coming weeks.
He expressed confidence that the facility could be delivered ahead of schedule, citing the availability of materials on site and at storage level as evidence of steady progress.
Mr. Ameabuno explained that the project is being financed through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) arrangement, where contractors are paid based on certified work done rather than upfront funding.
He also highlighted his company’s experience in executing similar educational projects across the country, including facilities at tertiary institutions and senior high schools in various regions.
The contractor acknowledged the support of the Birifor community and traditional authorities, noting that local labour participation has helped facilitate smooth execution of the project.
The dining hall project is part of broader efforts by the government and the Lawra MP to expand educational infrastructure, improve student welfare, and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning at Birifor SHS.
