The Ashanti Regional Police Command, working alongside the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team (SOT), has intensified its fight against organised crime with the arrest of 186 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations across the region.
The coordinated exercise, conducted between June 8 and 17, 2026, targeted criminal networks allegedly involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms and other organised crimes.
According to a statement from the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the operations were carried out in several communities, including Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase and Old Tafo Ahenbronum.
Among those arrested were 86 Ghanaians, 96 Nigerians and four Togolese nationals.
Police described one of the major breakthroughs as the June 9 operation at Kenyase Aframa, where officers arrested a suspect identified as Gladys Ibrahim, also known as “Mama Gee,” together with the foreign nationals.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are linked to a transnational criminal syndicate allegedly engaged in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking and other illicit activities.
The operation also resulted in the rescue of several individuals believed to have been exploited by the network, including minors.
Police said the rescued children have been separated from the suspects and placed under protective care in accordance with child protection protocols, while foreign nationals identified as victims are being processed in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary immigration and repatriation procedures.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended officers of the Special Operations Team and the Regional Command for the successful execution of the operations, describing the exercise as a significant step in dismantling organised criminal networks operating within the region.
Investigations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the syndicate, while all arrested persons remain in police custody or are assisting with investigations.
