Passengers travelling through Terminals 2 and 3 of Kotoka International Airport will now experience faster and more convenient security screening following the deployment of advanced screening technology by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The new security equipment, installed at passenger screening checkpoints, is designed to enhance aviation security while significantly reducing the time travellers spend during security checks.
In a public notice issued on Saturday, July 11, 2026, GACL announced that passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their hand luggage during screening.
Travellers will also be allowed to keep their shoes and belts on while passing through security, except where additional screening is deemed necessary based on security assessments or profiling.
The upgraded screening system also enables passengers to leave Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) inside their carry-on baggage during the screening process, eliminating the need for separate inspections in most cases.
However, GACL reminded passengers that existing international aviation regulations remain unchanged, stressing that liquid containers exceeding 100 millilitres are still prohibited in cabin baggage.
To further improve passenger flow, the airport has introduced an Automatic Tray Return System (ATRS), which automatically returns screening trays after inspection, allowing travellers to collect and repack their belongings more quickly.
According to GACL, the deployment of the new technology will be carried out in phases to ensure a smooth transition. During the rollout period, the advanced screening equipment will operate alongside the existing security systems to maintain uninterrupted airport operations.
The company appealed to passengers and other airport users to cooperate with security personnel and remain patient as the phased implementation continues, noting that the upgrade forms part of efforts to improve the overall travel experience while maintaining high international aviation security standards.
