MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to cultural preservation and community development with support for the 2026 Dumba Festival of the Wala people in the Upper West Region.
The telecommunications company donated GH¢20,000 in cash, GH¢1,000 worth of airtime, assorted drinks and water to the Wala Traditional Council to support preparations for this year’s celebration.
Presenting the items in Wa on Friday, MTN Ghana Area Sales Manager for the North, Mr Richard Asamane, said the company viewed traditional festivals as important platforms for preserving cultural heritage while promoting unity, tourism and economic activity.
He said the Dumba Festival provided an opportunity for indigenes of the Wala Traditional Area to reconnect with their history and identity, while bringing together residents, traditional authorities, visitors and other stakeholders.
According to him, festivals such as Dumba could contribute significantly to local development by creating opportunities for businesses, tourism operators and other service providers to benefit from increased economic activity during the celebrations.
Mr Asamane said MTN Ghana’s support went beyond its core telecommunications and digital services, stressing that the company remained committed to communities whose support had contributed to its growth over the past three decades.
“As MTN Ghana marks 30 years of service, we recognise that our journey has been made possible by the trust and loyalty of communities such as Wa. For three decades, you have trusted us to connect you to family, business, opportunity, and the world. We do not take that trust for granted,” he said.
He further announced that MTN Ghana would establish experience centres at strategic locations during the festival to provide customer support and other services to festival-goers.
Mr Asamane expressed the hope that the 2026 Dumba Festival would be peaceful and successful and strengthen unity among the people while showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the Wala people.
Receiving the donation, Secretary to the Dumba Planning Committee, Dr Issahaque Mumuni, thanked MTN Ghana for its contribution, saying the support would help ease the financial pressure on the committee as it prepared for the festival.
The 2026 Dumba Festival is expected to attract traditional authorities, residents, tourists and other visitors from across Ghana and beyond, providing a platform to celebrate Wala culture while promoting social cohesion and economic activity in the area.
