Residents of Wetakope in the Agorta Electoral Area of the South Tongu District are set to gain access to potable water following approval for the extension of the existing water supply network to the community.
The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, said the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) had been cleared to commence the necessary works after a technical assessment of the proposed extension was completed.
The intervention follows concerns from residents over inadequate access to reliable potable water, which has affected living conditions in the community.
Mr Lukutor said his office initiated the process by directing the GWCL, in collaboration with the Works Department of the South Tongu District Assembly, to assess the technical requirements for connecting Wetakope to the existing water supply network.
According to the MP, the assessment has now been successfully completed, paving the way for implementation of the project.
He said the approval for the works marked an important step towards addressing one of the basic infrastructure needs identified by residents of Wetakope.
Mr Lukutor commended the Assembly Member for the area, Sylvester Woyome, executives of the Agorta branch and residents for their cooperation throughout the assessment and approval process.
He said the provision of potable water was essential to improving public health, living conditions and the general wellbeing of communities.
The MP pledged to continue working with government institutions, the District Assembly and other stakeholders to identify and address basic infrastructure needs across the South Tongu Constituency.
He said the focus would be on practical interventions capable of producing tangible improvements in the daily lives of residents.
“One community at a time, we will continue to address the basic needs of our people. I remain hopeful that, through sustained efforts and collaboration, every community in the South Tongu Constituency will have access to quality and potable water,” he said.
The planned extension to Wetakope forms part of efforts to improve access to essential services in communities within the constituency, with the MP reaffirming his commitment to pursuing similar interventions in collaboration with relevant institutions.
