The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested three men, including a company driver, in connection with a daring gold robbery at Wassa Afransie in the Western Region.
The suspects — Felix Adjei (alias Africa or Nana Adjei), Kofi Appiah (alias Jesse), and Emmanuel Kelvin, a Nigerian national — were implicated in the theft of gold worth GH¢199,000.00 and other valuables from employees of Mas Palasco Gold Buying Limited.
At a press briefing in Tarkwa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Desmond Boampong, the Regional Commander, disclosed that the heist occurred on April 4, 2025, when Kofi Appiah, who served as a company driver, and another employee, Emmanuel Adu, were returning from a gold collection mission. Armed men ambushed them, firing warning shots and seizing 14 pounds of gold, two mobile phones, and an unregistered Toyota Corolla.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Kofi Appiah at his residence in Wassa Akropong on April 21, 2025, with subsequent operations nabbing the remaining two suspects at their hideouts.
A cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered during the arrests, including a Jojeft pump action gun, a Calymm PDS pistol, 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an AA cartridge, two G3 bullets, a locally manufactured pistol, and GH¢65,000 in cash, believed to be part of the robbery proceeds.
DCOP Boampong confirmed that all retrieved items are in police custody and the suspects are currently assisting in further investigations.
