Ghanaian authorities, in collaboration with the Togolese Police, have successfully apprehended Adina Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, also known as Mohammed Djandjo, a suspected mastermind behind a string of high-profile armed robberies in Accra.
Moudjibou, who had evaded capture for years, was arrested by Togolese security forces on January 30, 2025, following an INTERPOL red notice issued by the Ghana Police Service. He was handed over to Ghanaian officials on May 12, 2025, under the West African regional security cooperation agreement signed in 2003.
Addressing the media in Accra, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, confirmed the operation.
“Moudjibou has been a high-profile target for the Ghana Police Service due to his involvement in a series of armed robberies across elite Accra neighborhoods, including East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Airport Residential Area, and Adjiringano,” she said.
DCOP Donkor noted that the suspect’s capture followed years of coordinated intelligence efforts and surveillance, which intensified after a public commitment by the police in October 2023 to bring him to justice.
“The suspect was known for his well-planned and often violent attacks on high-profile residents in some of Accra’s wealthiest communities between 2022 and 2024. His activities were widely reported, with CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts linking him to multiple high-stakes heists,” she added.
On May 14, 2025, a five-member delegation from Ghana, led by DCOP Donkor, traveled to Lome, Togo, aboard a military aircraft to finalize Moudjibou’s transfer to Ghanaian custody.
The suspect is now in Accra, where he faces multiple charges related to armed robbery, assault, and illegal possession of firearms. The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it will continue to work with regional partners to dismantle organized crime networks and improve public safety.
