Kofi Kinaata Prepares Musical Tribute to Recent Tragedies in Ghana
Accra – Multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer-songwriter Kofi Kinaata has announced a new song, ‘It is Finished’, set for release on Tuesday, August 26, dedicated to the series of tragic events that have shaken the country in recent months.
The song is inspired by a string of national tragedies, including the untimely deaths of Highlife stars Nana Kwakye ‘Dada KD’ Duah (May 16) and Charles Kwadwo ‘Daddy Lumba’ Fosu (June 26), the fatal road accident on July 28 that claimed 16 youths from the Saviour Church of Ghana, and the August 6 helicopter crash that killed all eight occupants, including two ministers.
Reflecting on the recent events, Kinaata wrote on Facebook, “From the loss of 16 kids, to the passing of our legendary musicians, and now the helicopter tragedy, it’s been weighing heavily on my soul… Moments like these really make you question life… what’s the point, when it can all end in an instant?”
He admitted that grief had overshadowed his music creation. “I’ve tried to shake it off with music, but every song I write somehow turns into a sad one,” he shared.
Fellow artist Sarkodie encouraged Kinaata to channel his emotions into his music, advice Kinaata warmly accepted, culminating in the completion of ‘It is Finished’. While details of the song’s genre and perspective remain under wraps, fans anticipate a reflective and thought-provoking Highlife track that may offer comfort and catharsis to a grieving nation.
Kinaata’s tribute underscores the role of music in helping communities process collective sorrow, reminding Ghanaians of the resilience and emotional healing that art can inspire during difficult times.
