The Tema Main Harbour community is reeling from shock following a brutal and gruesome killing on Friday, where a man in his mid-50s was beheaded by a suspect believed to be mentally challenged.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Ali, reportedly in his 30s, shocked residents when he severed the caretaker’s head and carried it openly in a carrier bag around the vicinity. Police swiftly apprehended Ali and recovered the victim’s body, which has been taken to the mortuary for further investigations.
Eyewitnesses and local squatters expressed deep horror and disbelief at the incident, describing it as a tragic event that has unsettled the usually busy harbor community. Isaac Adjei, a nearby resident, revealed that Ali was once a regular laborer helping with cargo around the harbor but had shown signs of mental instability over the past two and a half years.
This shocking event has brought attention to the challenges surrounding mental health care and support within the area, sparking urgent calls from community members and officials alike for improved interventions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to this horrific act, while the community mourns the loss of one of its caretakers in deeply distressing conditions.
