The Ghana Police Service has moved swiftly to curb further violence in Teshie after this year’s Homowo Festival celebrations turned bloody, leaving two people dead and several others injured.
Following an ex parte application by the police, the Accra High Court, Criminal Division, on Friday, August 29, 2025, placed an injunction on all outdoor and public activities associated with the festival, excluding traditional rites.
ASP Benjamin Baafi, who represented the police in court, explained that the move was necessary to forestall further clashes after rival youth groups from the Lenshie and Gbugblah clans violently disrupted the sprinkling of Kpokpoi on Tuesday, August 26.
The disturbances have heightened security concerns in the area, with police warning that the situation could spiral if preventive measures were not taken.
By the court’s ruling, all non-traditional public activities scheduled for Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, have been suspended to ensure peace and protect lives.
Police say they remain on high alert and are engaging community leaders to restore calm, urging residents to cooperate fully to avoid a repeat of the chaos.
