President John Dramani Mahama has invited Chinese investors to partner with Ghana in developing a futuristic Green Digital City, a 20-year urban development initiative aimed at merging sustainability with cutting-edge technology.
Addressing a Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing, China, on Tuesday, October 13, President Mahama described the project as a cornerstone of his administration’s drive to transform Ghana’s infrastructure and digital economy.
The proposed city, which will span the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Volta Regions, is envisioned to serve as a model for eco-friendly urban living powered by digital innovation.
President Mahama said an inter-ministerial committee would soon be inaugurated to oversee the design and feasibility studies, while a transaction advisor would be appointed to lead the implementation process.
“This will be a green, digital city that showcases advanced urban design, planning, and innovation,” the President said. “It’s a 20-year project to be executed in four phases, and my expectation is that the first phase will begin before my tenure ends.”
The initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader agenda to attract sustainable investment, create smart jobs, and position the country as a regional hub for technology-driven development.
Analysts say the project, if successfully executed, could redefine Ghana’s urban landscape and serve as a benchmark for green growth across Africa, especially with China’s growing influence in digital infrastructure and smart city development.
