The Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, has called for deeper collaboration between regulators, fintech innovators, and service providers to ensure the sustainable growth of Ghana’s rapidly expanding digital finance ecosystem.
Speaking at the MoMo Fintech Stakeholders Forum on Wednesday, October 15, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu said the rise of financial technology has not only revolutionized access to financial services but also transformed Ghana’s financial culture.
“This transformation is not just numerical but also cultural,” she noted, stressing the need for partnerships that balance innovation with financial stability and consumer protection.
She highlighted that mobile money transactions in Ghana continue to grow strongly, reflecting the country’s accelerating shift toward a digital economy.
The BoG Deputy Governor also referenced global projections that place the fintech market at $400 billion by 2028, with digital lending alone expected to exceed $1.3 trillion, emphasizing Ghana’s potential to tap into this expanding global industry.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu reiterated the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to supporting digital finance innovation through progressive regulation, adding that fintech has become a crucial driver of financial inclusion and economic transformation.
“The future of finance lies in collaboration — regulators, innovators, and stakeholders must work together to sustain this momentum,” she concluded.
