The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) Chamber of Ghana have called on Parliament’s Information and Communications Committee and Finance Committee to champion policies that will drive the growth of the telecommunications and digital finance sectors.
According to the two industry groups, these sectors are critical to Ghana’s economic expansion, digital transformation, and financial inclusion. They stress that investment-friendly regulations, infrastructure support, and strategic policies are essential to unlocking the full potential of telecommunications and digital finance.
In a joint statement, the Chambers emphasized the role of these industries in shaping Ghana’s future:
“Telecommunications and digital finance are not just industries; they are catalysts for economic prosperity, financial inclusion, and national development. Telecommunications connects businesses, communities, and government services, while digital finance is transforming transactions, boosting financial access, and fueling innovation in commerce and entrepreneurship.”
The Chambers warned that without deliberate policy interventions, Ghana risks slowing down its progress in the digital economy. They are pushing for measures that encourage investment, enhance digital security, and promote financial inclusion.
Key recommendations include:
- A regulatory framework that reduces operational challenges and improves broadband access.
- Policies to protect critical telecommunications infrastructure.
- Strategies to lower the cost of doing business, ensuring affordability and accessibility for Ghanaians.
To achieve these goals, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the EMIs Chamber of Ghana are committed to working closely with parliamentary committees and other key stakeholders to shape policies that position Ghana as a leader in telecommunications, digital payments, and technological advancement.
