MTN Ghana’s growing dominance in data and mobile financial services has driven a strong financial performance, with the telecommunications giant and its fintech subsidiary, Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL), recording a combined profit after tax of GH¢7.75 billion in the first nine months of 2026.
The figure represents a 43 per cent increase from the GH¢5.42 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting increased customer activity across the companies’ digital and financial service platforms.
Data services emerged as the biggest contributor to revenue growth, generating GH¢13.45 billion, representing a 44.5 per cent increase year-on-year.
Revenue from Mobile Money operations also expanded by 24.4 per cent to GH¢5.37 billion, while digital services recorded one of the strongest growth rates, nearly doubling to GH¢642 million.
The performance was supported by an expanding customer base, with active data subscribers increasing by 16.1 per cent to 22 million and active Mobile Money users rising by 6.9 per cent to 18.9 million.
Combined service revenue for the nine-month period increased by 33.5 per cent to GH¢23.15 billion, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 40.6 per cent to GH¢14.28 billion.
The improvement in earnings pushed the EBITDA margin up by 3.1 percentage points to 61.5 per cent, indicating stronger operational profitability.
This growth was achieved despite a 23.2 per cent increase in operating costs, which reached GH¢8.93 billion during the period.
In a further indication of the companies’ financial performance, the boards of Scancom PLC and MMFL have each declared an interim third-quarter dividend of GH¢0.03 per share.
Looking ahead, MTN Ghana has maintained an optimistic outlook for the remainder of 2026, projecting full-year service revenue growth within the low-to-mid-30 per cent range.
The company also expects its EBITDA margin to remain between the high-50s and low-60s, signalling confidence in sustaining its profitability despite rising operating costs.
