Former Member of Parliament for the Afadjato South Constituency, Madam Angela Alorwu-Tay, has reinforced her commitment to inmate welfare with a donation of food items to selected correctional facilities in the Volta Region.
The support, which benefited inmates of the Kpando Prison as well as the Ho Central and Female Prisons, included bags of rice, boxes of spaghetti and large gallons of cooking oil. The items were presented on her behalf by Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Wilson Gagakuma of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
Speaking during the presentation, CSP Gagakuma said the donation was part of Madam Alorwu-Tay’s consistent efforts to support the Ghana Prison Service. He recalled her previous interventions, including the donation of a deep freezer two years ago and the drilling of a borehole last year for the Ho Central Prison, noting that the latest donation also fulfilled a promise she had earlier made to support the prison during the Yuletide.
He added that the gesture aligned with the Prison Service’s “Think Prison 360” initiative, which focuses on improving inmate feeding, healthcare and overall well-being. At the Ho facilities alone, Madam Alorwu-Tay donated 26 bags of rice, eight boxes of spaghetti and three large gallons of cooking oil, while the Kpando Prison received 14 bags of rice, two boxes of spaghetti and one large gallon of cooking oil.
Receiving the items, Superintendent Johnson Dovlo, Staff Officer at the Ho Central Prison, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Regional Commander, officers and inmates, describing the support as timely and impactful. He said the donation would help sustain inmate feeding for some time and praised Madam Alorwu-Tay for her reliability and continued dedication to the welfare of inmates in the region.
