Residents of several communities in South Tongu Constituency are set to see improvements in water supply following coordinated efforts by local authorities and utility providers.
Mr. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, has engaged the Sogakope District Manager of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Mr. Richard Ekow, and his technical team to address recent disruptions affecting communities including Dorkploame, Lakpo, Atsieve, Yorkuitikpo, and Sogakope.
Officials from GWL explained that the interruptions were largely caused by low voltage supply from GRIDCo, which reduced the capacity of pumps essential for water treatment and distribution. The issue has already been communicated to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office in Sogakope for technical intervention.
Mr. Lukutor described uninterrupted water supply as vital to household wellbeing and the district’s development agenda. He revealed that he had contacted officials responsible for the GRIDCo power line serving Agordomi and surrounding communities to request expedited technical support to stabilize voltage levels and ensure effective water production.
In addition, the MP said he had reached out to national management of GWL to encourage timely action, particularly because South Tongu hosts a major water treatment plant supplying parts of the district.
Mr. Lukutor also asked the GWL District Manager to explore options to extend supply from Ada District to Kpotame and Vume and to consider augmenting production from the Kesseve Water Treatment Plant to strengthen resilience against future disruptions.
He stressed that the water challenges affect residents across the constituency and urged swift, coordinated action among the relevant agencies to achieve sustainable solutions.
The MP reiterated his commitment to working collaboratively with GWL, GRIDCo, ECG, and other stakeholders to ensure reliable water supply and improve service delivery in South Tongu.
