Yaw Quainoo, a former student of Prince of Peace Presbyterian School in Tema Community 2/5, has urged students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to stay disciplined, focused, and committed to their studies.
Master Quainoo, who topped male students among private schools in the Tema West Municipality, offered the advice during an interview with the Ghana News Agency after being honoured at the municipality’s Independence Day parade marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary.
Now a student at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, Master Quainoo reflected on the challenges he faced as a day student commuting from New Dawhenya to Tema on the heavily congested Tema-Aflao Road.
He explained that, unlike some peers who stayed in school hostels to maximize study hours, his home environment sometimes limited his post-school study time.
“Sometimes I got home so late that I could not study. This affected some of my marks, but I still succeeded,” he said, emphasizing that determination and conscious effort were key to his achievement.
Master Quainoo encouraged BECE candidates to manage their time effectively, stay focused, and work hard to reach their academic goals. He also expressed gratitude to his family and teachers at Prince of Peace Presbyterian School for their guidance and support throughout his preparation.
His story highlights the role of resilience, discipline, and support networks in achieving academic excellence, even under challenging circumstances.
