Legal representatives of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, have moved swiftly to contest a court decision that placed him in police custody over a land dispute in Kitase.
The legal team says it will file an appeal at the Koforidua High Court on March 17, seeking to overturn the remand order issued by the Akropong Circuit Court and secure bail for their client.
Mr Blay was remanded on March 16 after appearing before the circuit court in connection with a dispute over ownership of a parcel of land in the Eastern Region.
The case reportedly began after a complainant alleged unlawful activity on the land and petitioned the police, leading to an invitation extended to Mr Blay to assist with investigations.
However, the matter escalated, resulting in his arrest and subsequent court appearance, where the judge ordered his remand pending further investigations.
Counsel for Mr Blay, Mr Gregory Asiedu, described the court’s decision as unjustified, expressing confidence that a higher court would review the circumstances and grant relief.
He indicated that preparations were already underway to challenge the ruling, adding that the appeal would focus on securing bail for Mr Blay while the case proceeds through the judicial system.
The development has drawn attention to the ongoing dispute, with the outcome of the appeal expected to determine Mr Blay’s immediate legal status as investigations continue.
