A coordinated early morning security operation in the Bono Region has led to the arrest of 24 individuals and the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and equipment, highlighting intensified efforts to curb insecurity in the area.
The joint operation, conducted by police and military personnel in the early hours of March 21, uncovered a range of weapons, including pump-action guns, locally manufactured firearms, ammunition, and bladed weapons such as machetes and swords. Security officials also retrieved motorbikes, military-style gear, body armour, mobile phones, and talismans.
Authorities confirmed that two of the suspects were arrested for violating curfew regulations, while others are being investigated for possible involvement in broader security concerns.
Thirteen of the suspects have already been arraigned before a Circuit Court in Sunyani, where they were granted bail with strict conditions, including daily reporting to the police and a directive to stay away from Sampa. The court warned that any breach of these conditions would lead to immediate revocation of bail.
The remaining suspects are still in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations as security agencies work to determine the full scope of the operation and any potential links to criminal networks.
The exercise, involving personnel from the Regional Police Command and the 3rd Battalion of Infantry, underscores a renewed commitment by security forces to restore order and maintain public safety in the region.
