Popular media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, host of the social media show For the Records, has been released from custody following his abrupt arrest by security forces on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
His release was confirmed by Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who criticized the arrest as unwarranted and unjustified.
Taking to Facebook, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, expressed his disappointment over the situation.
“We’ve just left the National Security premises, and it’s disappointing to say that Okatakyie Afrifa’s arrest after his exams this evening was completely unnecessary and unjustified. Thanks to the intervention of several individuals, he has been released.”
He also defended press freedom, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent:
“Free speech cannot be suppressed under the guise of an investigation. If that’s the case, then National Security should be ready to arrest all of us.”Afrifa Mensah’s detention has sparked widespread criticism from the NPP and press freedom advocates, who view it as an attack on democracy and freedom of expression.
Calls for greater protection of journalists and media personalities have intensified, with many urging authorities to respect the right to free speech and due process.
While the exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear, the incident has reignited discussions about government overreach and the protection of civil liberties in the country.
