A special anti-drug operation by the Northern Regional Police Command has led to the arrest of seven suspects and the retrieval of 40 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation, carried out by the Police Special Operations Team known as “Red Maria,” targeted suspected drug hotspots in Zogbeli, Kukuo and later Savelugu following intelligence gathering.
According to the Police, four suspects were arrested at Zogbeli, while two others were picked up at Kukuo for allegedly possessing and dealing in narcotic substances.
The team later extended the swoop to Savelugu, where another suspect was arrested over suspected involvement in drug-related activities, although a search in his room reportedly did not uncover any illegal substances.
The Police said the exercise formed part of ongoing efforts to curb drug peddling and related crimes in the Northern Region.
All seven suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations as authorities continue efforts to dismantle drug networks in the area.
