The government is preparing to give Efua Sutherland Children’s Park a major facelift as part of efforts to create safer and more modern recreational spaces for children in Ghana.
The planned redevelopment will transform the park into an eco-friendly destination designed to promote recreation, learning, and relaxation for children and families.
Minister for Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, disclosed that proposals for the project would soon be presented to Cabinet as an information paper.
She revealed that several local and international organisations have already shown interest in supporting the redevelopment initiative.
Speaking to Citi News on Saturday, Dr Lartey said the redesigned park would meet modern standards while ensuring children still have access to free recreational spaces.
She explained that although some premium attractions may require payment, the broader goal is to ensure that every child can visit the park freely and enjoy a safe environment.
Among the proposed features under discussion are canopy walkways, waterfalls, and other attractions aimed at making the facility more appealing to families.
The Minister also stressed that environmental sustainability would be a major focus of the redevelopment project.
According to her, government plans to preserve at least 85 per cent of the trees within the park despite the redevelopment works.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the shortage of parks, green spaces, and safe social environments for children, especially in rapidly growing urban centres such as Accra.
Government says the project is expected to provide children with a safer, greener, and more inclusive recreational space once completed.
