Former Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye has challenged the Ministry of Health Ghana to provide evidence backing allegations of procurement irregularities linked to the Weija Paediatric Hospital project.
Speaking on What the Papers Are Saying on Channel One TV on Thursday, May 7, Dr Okoe Boye questioned what he described as inconsistencies in the ministry’s explanation for delays in opening the facility.
He argued that claims of procurement breaches do not align with suggestions that the hospital could be commissioned within weeks.
“How can you claim there was misprocurement and at the same time say the hospital will be commissioned in three weeks?” he questioned.
The former minister dismissed allegations that procurement rules were breached during his tenure, insisting there was no wrongdoing in the project’s execution.
His remarks come as public frustration grows over delays in operationalising the fully completed 120-bed hospital, which is expected to boost specialised healthcare services for children in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality and nearby communities.
Earlier this week, residents staged a protest at the hospital premises, demanding its immediate opening.
The demonstration has intensified pressure on government to clarify the delays and ensure the facility begins operations.
