President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye of Senegal has arrived in Ghana to participate in a high-level continental conference focused on advancing global discussions on reparatory justice for the trafficking and enslavement of Africans.
The three-day High-Level Consultative Conference, taking place in Accra from June 17 to 19, 2026, is expected to bring together African leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to chart the next steps following a landmark United Nations resolution on the trafficking of enslaved Africans.
President Faye touched down at the Jubilee Lounge of the Accra International Airport on Wednesday evening and was welcomed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The conference seeks to strengthen international efforts aimed at securing historical recognition, accountability, restitution and reparatory measures for the long-term impact of slavery and colonial exploitation on African societies and their descendants.
President Faye joins other African Heads of State attending the gathering at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, who is hosting the event as part of broader efforts to build a united African position on issues of historical justice and reparations.
The Accra meeting is expected to contribute to ongoing global conversations on addressing the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and ensuring meaningful redress for affected communities across Africa and the diaspora.
