The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will remain a formidable political force even if former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong decides to leave the party, Energy Analyst and former NPP presidential aspirant Kwadwo Poku has asserted.
His comments come at a time of heightened tensions within the opposition party, following calls from some members for disciplinary action against Mr. Agyapong over remarks perceived as damaging to party unity.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, June 22, Mr. Poku acknowledged Kennedy Agyapong’s significant influence within the NPP but stressed that no individual is bigger than the party.
To underscore his point, he cited a social experiment involving a celebrated musician whose popularity disappeared when he performed anonymously in a public subway.
According to Mr. Poku, the experiment demonstrates how an individual’s prominence is often tied to the institution or platform with which they are associated.
“No single person is bigger than the NPP or the NDC,” he said, arguing that political parties derive their strength from their collective identity rather than any one personality.
While emphasizing the party’s resilience, Mr. Poku also revealed that he would support efforts to reconcile with Mr. Agyapong and encourage him to remain within the NPP.
“I will sit with Ken Agyapong and beg him anytime and any day to stay with the NPP,” he stated. “But if we cannot reconcile and he leaves, his departure will not collapse the party.”
The remarks follow a recent warning from Mr. Agyapong, who cautioned party members against dismissing his concerns and suggested he could reveal more internal matters if provoked.
As the NPP works to rebuild unity and prepare for future elections, growing public disagreements among key figures continue to attract attention and raise questions about cohesion within the party.
