Policy analyst Steve Manteaw has called on Ghanaians to demand answers over funds allocated for flood management, suggesting that former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah should be held accountable for how the resources were used.
His comments come in the aftermath of Monday morning’s heavy rains, which triggered severe flooding across parts of Accra, disrupting movement, damaging property and affecting businesses.
Reacting on social media, Mr. Manteaw questioned the effectiveness of past investments meant to address flooding challenges in the capital.
He suggested that the former minister, who previously oversaw sanitation and related environmental management portfolios, had responsibility for such funds and should account for their utilisation.
In a post, he wrote: “Wondering where your flood management money went? Ask Cecilia Dapaah. She was in charge.”
The remarks add to growing public debate over Ghana’s recurring urban flooding and the effectiveness of long-standing drainage and sanitation interventions in Accra.
