The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has intensified its crackdown on unlicensed digital investment platforms, warning the public against investing in YEPBIT Exchange and BONCHAT, which it says are operating without regulatory approval.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the Commission identified the two platforms as suspected fraudulent investment schemes allegedly soliciting funds from the public through digital and crypto-asset channels despite not being licensed to provide investment services in Ghana.
According to the SEC, preliminary intelligence suggests that both entities have been attracting investors without the authorisation required under Ghana’s securities laws.
“The SEC wishes to alert the General Public to a suspected fraudulent investment scheme operating under the name(s) YEPBIT EXCHANGE and BONCHAT, which is soliciting investments from members of the public, including through digital/crypto-asset platforms. YEPBIT EXCHANGE and BONCHAT are not licensed by the SEC,” the statement said.
The warning forms part of the regulator’s ongoing efforts to protect investors as digital investment products and cryptocurrency-related schemes continue to gain popularity in Ghana.
The Commission urged the public to verify the licensing status of any investment firm before committing funds and cautioned against platforms that promise unrealistic or guaranteed returns.
It also advised prospective investors to avoid schemes that rely primarily on recruiting new participants to generate earnings, describing such models as a common feature of fraudulent investment operations.
The SEC further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious investment activities to the Commission to support efforts to safeguard investors and maintain confidence in Ghana’s capital market.
The notice was issued under Sections 3 and 208(c) of the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), as amended, reaffirming the Commission’s mandate to regulate the securities industry and protect the investing public.
