A security analyst has warned that the dispute over the funeral arrangements of Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo could pose a serious public order risk unless security agencies take immediate preventive action.
Adib Saani, Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, said the controversy had escalated beyond a private family matter and now required a coordinated security response to prevent possible violence.
In a statement, Mr. Saani cited the earlier shooting incident, ongoing legal proceedings and the sharply differing positions adopted by the parties as factors that have heightened tensions surrounding the funeral.
“No funeral should become a flashpoint for violence or disorder,” he said.
He expressed concern that emotionally charged supporters of the opposing sides could create conditions for confrontation, even if the principal parties themselves were not seeking violence.
Mr. Saani urged the Ghana Police Service and other relevant institutions to conduct a comprehensive security risk assessment and maintain a strong but impartial security presence throughout all funeral-related activities.
He recommended intelligence-led policing, stakeholder engagement, effective crowd management and strict enforcement of lawful court directives as essential measures to prevent breaches of the peace.
According to him, the situation remains fluid and requires continuous monitoring and proactive intervention to address emerging threats before they escalate.
The security expert also called on all parties involved in the dispute to exercise restraint and resolve disagreements over succession, funeral arrangements and estate matters through lawful and peaceful means.
He stressed that the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo deserved a final farewell characterised by dignity, unity and peace, and appealed to stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to ensure that the funeral does not become a source of public unrest.
