SHC Gives Illegal Occupants 48 Hours to Quit State Lands Ahead of Nationwide Crackdown

The State Housing Company (SHC) Limited has given illegal occupants of its lands a final 48-hour deadline to vacate, warning that a nationwide operation to reclaim encroached state properties is imminent.

The ultimatum follows the expiration of a 21-day notice previously issued to occupants, as the company intensifies efforts to recover lands under its management.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Deputy Managing Director of SHC, Samuel Atukwei Quaye, said the company was prepared to move beyond warnings and take concrete enforcement action against those occupying its lands unlawfully.

He, however, indicated that individuals with legitimate claims to the affected properties still had an opportunity to regularise their status before the enforcement exercise begins.

Mr Quaye warned that the company would no longer tolerate continued encroachment, stressing that it was determined to fulfil its responsibility to protect state assets.

“Over the years, when some of these press conferences and calls are made, they don’t see action on the ground, but this time, they might be sleeping on their wrong side because we will be taking serious action,” he said.

“We are no longer going to sleep, and we are not going to renege on our responsibilities, and that is why we are appealing to Ghanaians for people to do the needful.”

SHC warns prospective land buyers

Beyond the planned recovery exercise, the company has cautioned prospective land buyers to verify ownership directly with SHC before making payments for properties purportedly belonging to the company.

The warning is intended to protect the public against fraudulent land transactions and the risk of acquiring state lands without proper authorisation.

SHC urged individuals interested in purchasing land to conduct the necessary checks before committing their money, particularly where ownership claims have not been independently verified.

The planned nationwide exercise forms part of the company’s efforts to reclaim encroached properties and safeguard state-owned lands from unauthorised occupation.

With the final notice now issued, occupants who fail to comply within the stipulated 48 hours risk enforcement action as the company prepares to begin the recovery operation.
