23,367 Promoted Teachers Still Await Salary Adjustments as CAGD Pays 56,003

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has paid promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 Ghana Education Service (GES) teachers, but more than 23,000 others are still waiting for their cases to be processed.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Department disclosed that although GES had reported approximately 80,000 promoted teachers, supporting documents had been submitted for only 56,633 for verification.

Of the records submitted, 56,003 teachers qualified for payment following verification, while 630 cases remain unresolved due to discrepancies identified in their documentation.

CAGD said it was awaiting the necessary corrections from GES before payments could be made to the affected teachers.

The outstanding cases involving 23,367 teachers are yet to be processed by GES and submitted to the Department for verification, leaving the affected staff unable to receive their promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears.

The disclosure comes amid efforts by government and teacher unions to resolve outstanding payments following an agreement reached on October 2 at a meeting at the Ministry of Education.

Under the agreement, the government was expected to settle the outstanding promotion-related payments by October 16.

CAGD said it had met the deadline for teachers whose records had been properly submitted and satisfied the required payroll conditions.

According to the Department, 49,725 teachers received their payments on October 15 alongside their October salaries, while another 6,278 had been paid in September.

The payments cover salary adjustments and arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.

The Department stressed that the remaining eligible payments would be processed once GES submits complete and accurate documentation for verification.

It also thanked GES, teacher unions, relevant ministries and other agencies for their cooperation in completing the payments.

The latest figures indicate that while CAGD has completed payments for the majority of teachers whose records were submitted and verified, the processing of outstanding cases by GES remains critical to ensuring that all eligible promoted teachers receive their financial entitlements.
