The government has paid more than GH¢4.4 billion to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and towards the settlement of Second-Tier Pension obligations, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.
The payments, according to the minister, are intended to safeguard workers’ pension benefits and demonstrate the government’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations and ensuring responsible management of public funds.
“Government has paid over GH¢4.40 billion to SSNIT and for Second-Tier Pension obligations,” Dr Forson said.
He added that the payments would help protect workers’ pensions while reinforcing the government’s commitment to the responsible use of public resources.
The announcement comes after the Finance Minister disclosed that the government had released GH¢24.8 billion to statutory funds since January 2026.
According to the minister, the statutory fund releases were made on time and in full to support key sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure and local development.
He said timely disbursement of the funds was essential to ensuring that the institutions responsible for delivering public services had the financial resources needed to carry out their mandates.
The latest payments highlight the government’s stated efforts to meet its pension and statutory fund obligations while supporting the delivery of essential services across the country.
