Public sector workers in Ghana are expected to receive a 9 per cent increase in total remuneration from January 1, 2027, following an agreement between the government and Organised Labour.
The agreement provides for an eight-percentage-point increase in base pay, alongside a one-percentage-point allocation for conditions of service.
Secretary-General of Organised Labour, Joshua Ansah, announced the outcome on Wednesday after a meeting of the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee.
The parties have also reached an agreement on a further 10 per cent across-the-board pay increase for 2028, scheduled to take effect from January 1 of that year.
According to the agreement, the 2028 adjustment will be calculated based on the applicable wage bill as of December 31, 2027.
The two-year arrangement sets out the agreed remuneration increases for public sector workers, with the 2027 adjustment taking effect at the beginning of the year and a higher percentage increase scheduled for 2028.
However, implementation of the agreement remains subject to the applicable legislative process.
The agreement follows negotiations between the government and organised labour through the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee, which provides a platform for discussions on public sector remuneration.
