The Ashanti Regional Police have intensified their investigation into a string of mobile money vendor murders following the arrest of the prime suspect, Martin Amoah, also known as “Baba Macho.”
Amoah, who had been on the run since the February killing of Patricia Nimarko at Krofrom, was apprehended in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region. He is also implicated in a similar attack in Kwadaso, fueling concerns about a disturbing trend targeting mobile money vendors in Ghana.
Police have confirmed that weapons believed to have been used in the murders have been submitted to the forensic lab for examination, as authorities build a case against Amoah and four other suspects currently in custody.
DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, revealed in an interview with Lawson FM that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, in the presence of independent witnesses. “We are on course. These crimes are grave, and we are determined to see justice served,” he stated.
The Asokwa District Court has adjourned the case to June 4, 2025, when all five suspects will reappear as the prosecution awaits guidance from the Attorney General’s Office.
Meanwhile, the family of Patricia Nimarko has called for a swift and transparent legal process, expressing cautious optimism that justice will be delivered for their daughter and other victims.
