The Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, has granted bail to Esi Affumwaa, a 48-year-old Akpeteshie seller and farmer, in the sum of GH¢10,000 after she allegedly bit the testicles of a customer during a confrontation.
The court ruled that the accused must provide two sureties, with at least one person residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The case, which has drawn public attention due to its unusual nature, is set to continue on March 13, 2024.
According to Prosecution Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the altercation occurred on Wednesday, February 26, 2024, around 4:30 p.m. at Assin Wurakese Camp in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
The complainant, Karim Osman, a 36-year-old farmer, allegedly visited Affumwaa’s house to purchase a cigarette. The situation quickly escalated into a heated dispute over an outstanding debt of GH¢2.40.
During the confrontation, Affumwaa allegedly attacked Osman by hitting his head with firewood and then biting his testicle, leaving him with a severe cut and heavy bleeding.
Following a police report by Osman, Affumwaa was arrested and interrogated. She reportedly admitted to causing harm but provided a different version of the events in court.
In her defense, she claimed that she did not bite the scrotum as alleged but instead acted in self-defense by squeezing the testicle after falling during the struggle.
The accused pleaded guilty with an explanation when she appeared before the court. After reviewing the circumstances, the judge granted her bail, with the next hearing scheduled for March 13, 2024.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions on conflict resolution, particularly in business transactions, as the community awaits further legal proceedings.
