The planned construction of a durbar ground at Akrofro in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region is expected to provide the community with a new venue for traditional and social activities while creating an additional source of revenue.
The Assembly Member for the Kotaa/Akrofro Electoral Area, Mr Nketia Yeboah, said the project would be important to the development of the community and could generate income to support local initiatives.
He made the observation when the Berekum East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Andrews Hinneh, visited the site earmarked for the project.
Mr Hinneh said the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum East, Elder Simon Ampaabeng, would finance the construction of the durbar ground.
He said the MP was expected to cut the sod for construction to begin shortly.
According to Mr Hinneh, the project formed part of commitments made by the MP to the people of Akrofro during the 2024 electioneering campaign.
He said its implementation demonstrated the MP’s commitment to addressing infrastructure needs and emerging socio-economic challenges within the constituency.
Speaking to a gathering at Akrofro, Mr Hinneh reaffirmed the MP’s determination to support projects that would improve living conditions and create opportunities for constituents.
Mr Yeboah, meanwhile, commended the MP for responding to the community’s infrastructure needs and urged residents to support the project to ensure its successful completion.
He also appealed to the MP and other stakeholders to consider the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the area.
He said the absence of an adequate health facility continued to pose challenges to residents seeking basic healthcare services and that a CHPS compound would bring essential services closer to the people.
