The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Kenyase II, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, bringing to an end an extraordinary reign that lasted 89 years.
The decision was announced on Monday, July 27, 2026, during a sitting of the Asanteman Traditional Council.
Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, who was enstooled in 1937, was widely regarded as the longest-serving Paramount Chief in Asanteman, with his reign spanning several generations within the Ashanti Kingdom.
According to the Traditional Council, the destoolment followed findings that the chief had violated Asante customs and traditions.
The council also sanctioned several of his kingmakers, who were destooled after being found to have breached their oath of office.
However, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II exercised clemency in the case of the Kontihene, who was spared the sanction.
The Asantehene also reinstated the destooled Akyeame and other linguists who serve on the traditional council.
The decision marks the end of one of the longest traditional reigns in the history of Asanteman and underscores the authority of the Asantehene and the Asanteman Traditional Council in enforcing customary laws and upholding the traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom.
