Ghana’s ambition to re-establish a national airline has received a boost, with American aerospace manufacturer Boeing pledging technical support for the proposed carrier as the government advances plans to bring the project to fruition.
The commitment signals progress towards the establishment of a new national airline, following engagements between President John Dramani Mahama and a delegation from Boeing.
The discussions have resulted in an agreed roadmap outlining key steps required to establish the airline, including securing strategic and technical partners, obtaining an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate fleet and developing sustainable financing arrangements.
Boeing, which is providing technical assistance for the initiative, has also assured the President of its continued support through the various stages of the project, including the establishment and eventual operations of the airline.
The proposed carrier is expected to play a strategic role in Ghana’s aviation sector by increasing passenger traffic through the country’s airport infrastructure and strengthening Accra’s ambition to become a major aviation hub in West Africa.
Beyond its contribution to the aviation industry, the project is also expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities across related sectors.
President Mahama has repeatedly emphasised his determination to restore Ghana’s national airline, expressing confidence that the country will have a carrier operational before the end of his presidential tenure in January 2029.
