An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to an engineer accused of unlawfully withholding vehicles belonging to a car rental company, while imposing stringent conditions to ensure his cooperation with ongoing investigations.
The accused, Desmond Peprah, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three justified sureties. The court further directed that one of the sureties must be a public servant earning at least GH¢3,000 monthly.
As part of the bail terms, Peprah is required to report to the police three times a week and is restricted from leaving the court’s jurisdiction without prior approval. The court also instructed the prosecution to file all disclosures ahead of a Case Management Conference scheduled for April 29, 2026.
According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the case involves a complaint by Ebenezer Azamatey, Chief Executive Officer of Ebenzam Car Rentals and Tours.
The court heard that the accused allegedly rented two vehicles—a Toyota Highlander and a Mitsubishi Outlander—from the company in February 2026 but failed to return them as agreed. Investigations led to his arrest in Mankesim after one of the vehicles was traced to him.
Prosecutors further allege that the second vehicle was handed over to a third party, who remains unaccounted for, prompting continued police inquiries.
The case highlights ongoing concerns around trust and accountability in the car rental sector, with the court emphasizing strict monitoring measures as the investigation proceeds.
