Farmers in the Akatsi South Municipality are set to benefit from a new educational programme aimed at modernising agricultural practices and strengthening local value chains.
The initiative, a collaboration between Delmark Agro and Bon Agro, is themed “Empowering Farmers through Knowledge and Collaboration”. It seeks to equip farmers with practical skills, improve access to inputs, and foster partnerships among stakeholders across the agricultural sector.
Chief Executive Officer of Delmark Agro, Edem Ackuaku—who was also named the 2022 Overall Best Farmer in the municipality—highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing in tackling challenges such as low productivity, limited market access, and climate-related farming risks.
The programme has already engaged hundreds of farmers through workshops across multiple zones, offering hands-on training and opportunities to adopt modern techniques aimed at boosting crop yields and sustainability.
Local leaders praised the initiative for its potential impact. Japhet Festus Gbede noted that with over 90 per cent of the municipality relying on agriculture, programmes like this are essential for food security, economic growth, and sustainable development.
Support from the municipal government and political stakeholders—including Daniel Dagba and Solo Adotevi—has strengthened the initiative, providing farmers with platforms to engage experts, exchange ideas, and adopt innovative practices.
Farmers from the Wute Zone expressed optimism that the programme would improve livelihoods, enhance productivity, and contribute to broader economic development within Akatsi South.
The project exemplifies how public-private collaboration and knowledge-driven interventions can empower farming communities and strengthen the agricultural sector at the grassroots level.
