The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr Ziblim Alhassan, has called for accelerated work on stalled library infrastructure projects in the Volta Region during a courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.
The engagement, held at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in Ho, formed part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on the expansion and modernisation of library services across the region.
Discussions focused on the status of ongoing projects, particularly the delayed Ho Regional Library, as well as the operational readiness of newly completed facilities.
Mr Alhassan disclosed that contractors working on the Ho Regional Library project are expected to return to site shortly to resume construction, describing the project as a key priority for the authority.
He expressed optimism that completion of the facility would significantly improve access to educational resources for students, researchers, and the general public in the region.
According to him, modern libraries are no longer just reading spaces but serve as centres for research, digital learning, innovation, and community development.
He also announced that the Hohoe Library has been completed and is ready for use as part of a broader national effort to expand literacy and knowledge access.
Mr Alhassan stressed the need for sustained collaboration between government agencies and development partners to ensure timely delivery of educational infrastructure.
In response, Mr Gunu commended the Ghana Library Authority for its commitment to improving library services in the region, noting the importance of such facilities in promoting literacy and lifelong learning.
He assured that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council would work closely with the authority, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Trust Fund to address challenges affecting the completion of the Ho project.
“We will collaborate with all relevant institutions to ensure the timely completion and operationalisation of the Ho Regional Library project for the benefit of the people of the region,” he said.
The visit forms part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by the Ghana Library Authority aimed at improving access to quality library services and strengthening educational development nationwide.
